Mission and beliefs

Our mission

To inspire, enable, and develop people to grow in their understanding of Kingdom values, and to use their God-given gifts to live out those values in all spheres of life.

At ETCBC, we believe our mission isn’t just reserved for Sundays or church spaces, but they’re meant to shape every part of our lives. Whether it’s in our families, neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools, or friendships, we want to see people embodying Kingdom values in ways that are tangible and faithful. That might look like welcoming others into our lives, working for justice where there is inequality, or offering kindness when it’s not expected. For us, faith is not just something to believe. It’s something to embody.

What we value

Our life together at ETCBC is shaped by five core values. These aren’t just ideas we talk about. They’re commitments we’re learning to live out together, in all the messiness and beauty of real community.

Reflecting God’s character (Genesis 1:26-27)

We strive to live in a way that reflects the love, grace, and justice of God. Together, we seek to embody compassion, truthfulness, and dignity in our relationships, so that our lives bear witness to who God is.

Sharing brokenness (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

We commit to creating a community where vulnerability is welcomed and no one suffers alone. We believe that sharing our brokenness opens us to healing and deeper connection, as we walk together in honesty and grace.

Pursuing community (Romans 12:10-13)

We seek to cultivate authentic relationships, where everyone is seen, valued, and supported. As a community, we’re committed to walking with one another in love and care, creating spaces where everyone can truly belong.

Embracing transformation (Romans 12:2)

We embrace the ongoing work of God in our lives and in the life of our community. We’re committed to growth, change, and renewal, trusting that God is always shaping us into something new for the good of the world.

Mutually leading and serving (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)

We affirm that leadership is shared, and every person has gifts to contribute. We’re committed to encouraging and empowering one another to lead and serve, recognizing that our community flourishes when all participate in the work of God’s kingdom.

What we believe

As part of the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ), we affirm the shared beliefs of our denomination, rooted in the historic Christian faith and centered on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These core convictions shape how we worship, how we live, and how we seek to follow Jesus in our everyday lives.

At the same time, we recognize that within the wide tradition of the Church, there are many areas where thoughtful, faithful people have come to different conclusions. Our community reflects that diversity. We include people from various theological backgrounds and perspectives and we make space for honest questions, respectful dialogue, and a posture of learning together.

We don’t expect everyone to agree on every point of doctrine. What we do ask is that we hold our convictions with humility, and that we resist turning differences into division. We’re committed to a unity that is deeper than uniformity, one that is shaped by love, guided by Scripture, and centered in Christ.

Our shared life is built on trust, not just in what we believe, but in how we walk with one another. If you’re looking for a community where faith is taken seriously, where questions are welcome, and where we seek to live out the values of God’s Kingdom together, you’re welcome here.
